ATHENS DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE   Jul 12,  2010
The District Attorney's Office for the Western Judicial Circuit (serving Athens-Clarke and Oconee Counties) has an immediate opening for an experienced Assistant District Attorney. All together, Athens-Clarke County (home of the University of Georgia) and Oconee County have a population of close to 150,000 persons, excluding students. The main office is located in Downtown Athens, within a few blocks of the University and about an hour or so from Atlanta. It consists of 30 staff members, including 12 ADAs.

In addition to the statutory qualifications (O.C.G.A § 15-18-21), significant litigation experience is required, preferably as a prosecutor with at least six (6) to ten (10) years experience. Specifically, we are looking for someone who can jump right in and run a courtroom and not be bashful about doing so, and someone who knows how to try a case well, dotting all i's and crossing all t's.

Just as important, however, this office is looking for candidates who possess the following qualities: common sense; good people skills; initiative; integrity; a keen legal mind and skills; a strong sense of right and wrong; balancing justice with fairness; an ability to effectively multi-task; staying calm under pressure; and a sense of personal and community responsibility.

ADAs will have an opportunity, but are not required, to assist the DA in teaching a Trial Practice class at the University of Georgia Law School. Salary is based on experience. The person hired would move into a county-funded position but may be able to move to a state-paid position in the near future.

ATLANTA JUDICIAL CIRCUIT   Jul 05,  2010
The Office of the Fulton County District Attorney is seeking an experienced professional for the Chief Investigator of its Public Integrity Unit. The primary responsibility of this position is the direct investigation of complex cases. S/he is also responsible for overseeing and directing the investigation of all cases assigned to the Public Integrity Unit. The Chief Investigator has supervisory responsibilities over the investigators assigned to the Unit and also works closely with the Chief Senior Assistant District Attorney and other attorneys assigned to the Unit.

Essential Functions:

-Singlehandedly investigate complex cases
-Assist in and direct the investigation of all cases in the Unit
-Locate and interview witnesses
-Write reports and case summaries in complex cases
-Collaborate with the Chief Senior Assistant District Attorney and other attorneys assigned to the Unit to investigate cases
-Meet with the District Attorney to discuss cases
-Present cases to the grand jury
-Assist the attorneys in court
-Supervise the investigators assigned to the Unit

Essential Skills

-Ability to complete sensitive investigations, involving public and elected officials and law enforcement officers, in a rapid manner
-Ability to gather information, determine facts and make a charging recommendation based on the investigative findings
-Ability to adjust priorities and manage time wisely in a fast-paced environment
-Ability to maintain records and documentation pertaining to work
-Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, understandable manner, and listen attentively to others
-Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational skills
-Excellent writing skills
-Excellent oral communication skills
-Ability to work independently and with a group

Qualifications

-Bachelor's degree required
-Law enforcement training and/or experience required
-Minimum of five (5) yrs investigatory experience, specifically in officer involved shooting cases and Internal Affairs complaints
-Minimum two (2) years supervisory experience
