Prosecuting Attorneys' Council Awarded Grant
Richard A. Malone, Executive Director of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia, is pleased to announce that the Council has received a grant of $68,300.00 from Governor Sonny Perdue’s Office of Highway Safety.
“The Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council is pleased to be partnered with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,” said Malone. “This grant will enable us to provide training designed to equip prosecutors and law enforcement officers with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully investigate and prosecute crimes of vehicular homicide and serious injury by vehicle, as well as impaired driving cases involving drugs other than alcohol.”
This state grant will provide the Council with the opportunity to conduct two training courses developed by the American Prosecutors Research Institute. Prosecuting the Drugged Driver trains prosecutor and law enforcement teams to more effectively scrutinize and evaluate DUI cases involving drug-impaired drivers. Lethal Weapon does the same for Vehicular Homicide and Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle cases. The grant also provides funds which will be utilized to target local areas throughout the state for direct, in-office training of law enforcement officers and prosecutors.
“The Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council is proud to be a member of this partnership, which will make the roads in Georgia safer for all of its residents,” said Malone.
