Brian M. Rickman was sworn in as the new district attorney for the Mountain Judicial Circuit on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 , by Governor Sonny Perdue at the Capitol in Atlanta. Rickman replaced Michael H. Crawford who retired at the end of 2007.
"I am honored and thrilled to be allowed the opportunity to succeed Mike Crawford in this position and work for the citizens of the Mountain Judicial Circuit," said Rickman, upon learning of his appointment.
Before his appointment, Rickman served as an assistant district attorney for the Alcovy, Mountain, and Piedmont Judicial Circuits of Georgia. He was sworn in at the Governor's office before an audience of family, friends and colleagues including his wife, Maggie and their son, Henry; Rickman's parents and wife's parents, and members of the Mountain Judicial Circuit staff. Also attending the ceremony were representatives from police departments for the cities of Clarkesville, Clayton, and Cornelia, and the Sheriff of Habersham County, Georgia.
"I love the Mountain Judicial Circuit, and we have an experienced and dedicated staff that I look forward to working with," said Rickman.
In addition to serving as an assistant district attorney, Rickman was also a partner at the firm Stockton & Rickman, LLC, in Clayton, Georgia. Rickman is a member of the State Bar Association, Georgia Court of Appeals Bar Association, Georgia Supreme Court Bar Association, and the US District Court (Northern District, Georgia) Bar Association. Rickman earned his baccalaureate from Piedmont College and his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia. He and his wife and son reside in Tiger, Georgia.
