Deal Appoints Stan Gunter to Enotah Judicial Circuit Judgeship

Friday, May 25, 2012 -

Gov. Nathan Deal today appointed Stan Gunter to a Superior Court judgeship within the Enotah Judicial Circuit, effective upon his swearing-in. Gunter will fill one of the vacancies created by the Honorable David E. Barrett and the Honorable Lynn Akeley-Alderman, who both resigned in March.

Gunter has served as the executive director of the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council since 2011. He is a native of northeast Georgia and served as the district attorney in the Enotah Judicial Circuit, which includes Union, Towns, White and Lumpkin counties, for 12 years. As district attorney, Gunter served on the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council and was president of the District Attorneys' Association. Gunter and his wife, Rita, have been married 29 years and have two sons, Chase and Trey.

Deal appointed Raymond George, a sole practitioner in Dahlonega, to fill the other Enotah Circuit judgeship vacancy.
