Robert T. Gilchrist, Senior Assistant District Attorney for the Southern Judicial Circuit, was announced “Assistant District Attorney of the Year for 2016” on July 17, 2016 during the 2016 Summer Conference sponsored by the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia (PAC).
PAC presented its annual Summer Conference from July 17-20, 2016 in Jekyll Island, Georgia at the Jekyll Island Convention Center. Each year during the conference, the District Attorneys’ Association of Georgia (DAAG) presents this award to recognize outstanding leadership and dedication in the field of prosecution.
Gilchrist noted that “I have worked as a prosecutor serving the People of the State of Georgia for almost 28 years, the last 20 under District Attorney J. David Miller. I’ve had the great fortune to work in a wonderful profession with a smart, fun, and dedicated group of people who make up the Southern Judicial Circuit Office. It is an honor to have done so, and doubly so to be recognized by the District Attorney’s Association of Georgia for my efforts.”
Gilchrist handles drug cases in Lowndes County and a variety of cases in Brooks County Superior and State Courts. He has handled cases ranging from shoplifting and forgery, to rape and murder.
Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Miller nominated Gilchrist for the award and praised his hard work and dedication. “As one of the three primary drug prosecutors in the Valdosta Office, he is a valuable resource, not only to the other drug prosecutors and law enforcement officers on search and seizure issues, but also to our crimes against person prosecutors on search issues in their cases” said Miller.
“One of the biggest challenges that we face in prosecution is to move the cases through the system on a timely basis. Rob has historically carried the highest caseload of felony cases in our circuit, and generally closes more cases each year than any of our ADAs” said Miller. “During the past decade, despite furloughs and salary freezes, Rob is a shining example of a dedicated public servant who has stayed with us and provided experienced leadership for our office. We are very fortunate to have people like Rob working with us in order to help make our community a safer place to live, work and raise our families.”
